I am writing from the floor of Lotusphere down in Orlando, Florida. I am quite impressed with the number of people here and the amount of activity around email monitoring and archiving. Last year, I am told that about 5000 people came to Lotusphere. This year, it is 7000.
When I talk to people, the reason for the growth seems to be Domino 8. The product, which was announced last year, has some great features -- especially around real-time communications. Last year, nobody knew what features would be announced. So, they did not come. This year, people know what Domino can do and it gets excited. I noticed how much the Sametime platform has matured. Several Microsoft Exchange users for email have come to talk about Lotus Sametime. It seems that many of the Sametime features work quite well for the enterprise.
My company, InBoxer, will be working closely with Permessa to expand capabilities in the IBM Lotus Sametime arena. Permessa IM Control provides real-time content management as well as reliability features. This is going to be a growing area.
I am excited to see the Lotus brand getting so much attention.
