Have you won millions of dollars in a lottery? Are you about to get an inheritance? Or, will you come to the aid of a throat cancer victim?
If you fell for one of these scams, you can feel that a little justice is on the way. Three Nigerian men pleaded guilty to to stealing more than $1.2-million in such scams, according to Net Security.
In one elaborate scam, the men sent emails which claimed to come from a victim of terminal throat cancer who wanted to distribute $55-million to charity. One of the gang, 31-year-old Nnamdi Chizuba Ainsiobi, is then said to have telephoned recipients, disguising his voice to pretend he was that suffering from the disease.
Anisiobi and 35-year-old Kesandu Egwuonwu are both citizens of Nigeria, whereas Anthony Friday Ehis, 34, comes from Senegal. A fourth defendant, Lenn Nwokeafor, was arrested by the Nigerian Economic & Financial Crimes Commission in July 2006 and is awaiting extradition to the United States.
