I have never watched a single minute of the ABC television show "The Bachelor." But, once again, email can tell the story behind the story. Was the shocking break-up as shocking to the participants. Access Hollywood released emails to let us know. (I usually reserve "Caught by Email" for politics and real business. But, why not Hollywood?)
As I understand it, The Bachelor, Jason Mesnick, after selecting Melissa Rycroft in the finale, broke up with her during the After the Final Rose special, and asked runner-up Molly Malaney to take him back. (Break up video.) This created a backlash from fans and viewers. More than 1,700 comments have been posted in response, many lashing out at the Seattle account executive for burning Rycroft in such a jarring fashion.
Access Hollywood has uncovered personal emails etween Mesnick and Melissa Rycroft and released them (PDF of Emails):
“Last night didn’t go NEAR how I thought… I still can’t believe how you can’t give reasons other than ‘It changed.’… You know as well as I do that you didn’t give 100% to me or the relationship. And I don’t understand how you can walk away form something without giving it your all,” she wrote in the e-mail dated January 19, 2009. “But I am walking away knowing I did.”
In her initial e-mail after the taping, it seems Melissa already also had a good idea about Jason’s feelings for Molly prior to Jason’s TV confession.
“And getting confirmation about Molly in front of people like that was a complete classless move if you ask me – how could you do that to me after I repeatedly asked you about it? I’m not stupid, I knew about Molly… and you lied to me about it,” she wrote. “I can’t even tell you how much respect I lost for you… but it makes this whole process from here on out much easier for me.”
